David and Sandy invite you to experience true country hospitality in their historic home. Rose-Lea was built in 1912 by local solicitor Norman Rowling and his wife Florence Lindeman, granddaughter of Dr Henry Lindeman (one of the fathers of Australian wine making). It has now been restored and modernised without losing the charm of its heritage.
We love old houses, and we always wanted to run a bed and breakfast. In 2015, when we saw this old homestead, we fell in love with it. The sandstone walls, high ceilings, generous rooms and wide verandahs were from a different time and with a history that needed to be preserved. It has taken us over seven years to restore this historic home in Gunnedah to its former glory. We now want to share it with others.
Take time to relax in the comfortable lounge room, maybe with the open fireplace warming you on colder nights.
Take time to indulge in a sumptuous hot and cold breakfast, served in the dining room or out on the verandah while watching the fairy wrens, finches and king parrots.
Take time to enjoy the large gardens filled with native and exotic plants, shaded by the old Jacaranda trees.
Take time to soak up the history of the 110-year-old house. Or spend some time with our large collection of books, magazines, DVDs, puzzles and board games.
Take advantage of our country location to explore northwest NSW. Enjoy seeing the big sky that you just don’t get to appreciate in the city.
Rose-Lea is fully air conditioned. The lounge room, dining room, library and gardens are accessed exclusively by guests. Tea and coffee making facilities can be enjoyed day and night. A four burner barbeque is also available for guests to use for lunch or dinner. Or why not try one of our restaurants in town, about five minutes away. Alternatively Rose-Lea is able to provide a basket lunch or a two course dinner, at additional cost, with 24 hours’ notice.
